McGovern became Rockhurst’s fourth-ever individual state champion and youngest, winning as a sophomore.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Jack McGovern ’28 was selected the BMA Foundation Week 11 Rockhurst Athletics Athlete of the Week.
In the MSHSAA State Championship race on Nov. 7, McGovern became Rockhurst’s fourth-ever individual State Champion, and youngest – winning as only a sophomore. Coming in at 14:52.20, McGovern beat out the field of 156 runners, and finished 11 seconds ahead of the runner-up.
It was McGovern’s seventh varsity race of the 2025 season; he won six races and took second in the other. Jack’s PR of 14:44.70 at Gans Creek earlier this year was the fastest 5K ever by a Missouri runner on a Missouri course, and he is the eighth fastest sophomore in the country in 2025.
